wasn't until I got to college that I realized that I LOVED to read things
that I chose. Instead of all the "wonderful" literature out
there, there was actually stuff worth reading. The first book I picked
up was "Krondor: The Betrayal" by Raymond Feist. I had already
played the computer game version ("Betrayal At Krondor") and
was interested in how it would translate in to a book.
Needless to say, "Magician: Apprentice", "Magician:
Master", and every other book by Feist now sit on my bookshelf.
It's not that he's an incredible writer, or that his characters are
exceptional; I think it's because he's books are so easy and fun to
read. I like fantasy as a genre and his books provide the right level
of fantasy, interplay of characters and humor to keep me hooked.
Over the summer I read the complete "Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy". I picked it up at a local Barnes and Nobles for $6 (you
really can't beat their bargain bin books). All in all it was pretty
humorous, but I think I still prefer magical fantasy over sci-fi.
